It’s
difficult to forget what Haman tried to do, but we still want to wipe out
every reminder of him, even when we tell the story about how we were
rescued. That’s why, when we read the story of Purim in the megillah, we
make as much noise as possible every time Haman’s name is mentioned.
Some people write Haman’s name on the soles of their shoes and stamp
their feet on the ground when they hear his name. Others have a special
rattle, called gragger in Yiddish or ra’ashan in Hebrew, which they use
to make a racket. |
