Sometimes
the boys would only want to marry a pretty girl or a rich girl. They would
forget that what is really important is not how pretty the girl is or how
rich her family is, but how kind and caring a person she is. To remind the
boys of this, the girls would sing a verse from the Book of Mishlei:
Sheker ha’hen v’hevel hayofi (grace is deceptive and beauty,
insignificant). They would also exchange clothing with one another so that
the boys would not know who could really afford expensive dresses and who
was only borrowing them.
