What is Shmini Atzeret?

Right after Sukkot comes a new holiday, Shmini Atzeret. We no longer use the sukkah or parade around the synagogue with the arba’a minim. Now that Sukkot is over, we can pray for rain for the farmers in Israel.

Tefillat Geshem: The prayer for rain, or Tefillat Geshem, signifies the beginning of winter in Israel. From now on, we add the words "mashiv haruach u’morid hageshem" (He who causes the wind to blow and the rain to fall) to our prayers.
